Lower Right Abdominal Pain

I have had lower right abdominal pain for 3 months now.  I had done urinalysis and blood work, came back with normal results. Also had pregnancy tests, and gynological exam done all of it was normal. Dr suspected ovarian cysts so I had abdominal and pelvic ultrasound - results again normal. They put me on a birth control pill - that did not help still constant dull abdominal pain in Lower right quadrant. Dr suggested Laparoscopy, where he removed adhesion and a little endometriosis. Its been 3 weeks after the surgery and the original pain came back. My doctor suggested putting me on a hormone therapy. My only symptoms are pain in RLQ of abdomen, abdominal swelling and gas.
Any ideas on what else might be causing this pain and what other test I can do? (xrays, ctscan...?)

Ooh I can feel for you.  The pain gets rather unbearable at times, too huh?  Some sharp and some dull, but none the less REAL painful!  (Whatever it is) it sounds that I suffer with the same.  In addition to the tests & treatments what you have listed as going through, I have also had a couple colonoscopys, a ck on the GI system, (not sure what it is called), but it concerns nuculear test, and and and... Within  the first 3 months of the year I had doctor/hospital espenses in excess of over $10,000.00, which should tell the dr's did it all...  I too would like to know if anyone has any comments or ideas.  Since the dr's have been unable to determine what this might be, they are claiming (but no confirmation) of this possibly being IBS.  I just want to know for sure, and treat whatever it is!

I'm not sure how helpful this will be...

About a year ago I got a very dull pain in my lower right abdomen when I layed down at night.  After a week or so, I went to the health clinic at my college, and they told me to return in a week.  When I came back, they thought it was probably an ovarian cist, but they sent me to the hospital to have it checked out.  When the doctors pressed on my lower right quadrant, I got a sharp pain.  This caused them to suspect appendicitis, even though I did not have the flu-like symptoms that usually go along with an inflamed appendix.  They did an ultrasound, and couldn't see anything, I had a gynecological exam, a CAT scan.  After all that, they still weren't sure, so the Doc went in to look at my appendix.  He said it was inflamed and removed it.  Apparently the reason it was inflamed was becuase of parasites.  Disgusting, huh? Well, I haven't had problems since, but I doubt I had appendicitus.  I didn't have any of the other symptoms, and I had the symptoms for so long.  Well, I think it was not appendicitus in the usual since, but perhaps a variation on it.  I think you will know if you have something similar because when they pressed on the place where my appedix was it hurt like hell.

Thanks for your response.  However, nothing is wrong w my appendix and the laparoscopy confirmed it.  Still searching for answers!

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I started to have pain in the lower right side.  I treated myself for 2 weeks; hot water with lemon juice, very little food, and drank gallons of water.  I have been unable to lay on my right side to sleep and prop up on 3 pillows.  I have been filled with gas, belching, sick stomach & cramps, and the green stools began last week.  I saw a Dr. and he sent me for blood work and a sonogram; could be IBS, gallbladder, ulcer, stones.  My tests came back good; cholesterol hightened. I read that when stools turn green it could elevate cholesterol; my normal cholesterol is l84; this time it was 233.  Tomorrow I plan to juice all day; I am sleeping better and can eat a little more now without feeling full on 2 spoonsfull. I have had the side pain on several previous occasions; never found out what the problem was!  This time it was more severe and has lasted longer.  I guess I'm on the mend; the Dr. didn't call me, I had to call him for tests results.

Has anyone found out what causes this pain yet? I have it in the lower right side of my body, like right under my appendix area. But my appendix was taken out as a child. I  have also had a hysterectomy where my left ovary and uterus were taken out; recent gynecological tests showed the remaining ovary was shriveled up, but could not be the cause.

Did any of you ever get any answers that helped you?

hi, i had a cycest on my right ovarie 3 years ago i had to get it removed.and besides that i have a lazy bowel, it`s been 2 weeks now that my right side has been bothering me i`m not sure if it`s another cycest or it`s my bowel acting up. the pain comes and goes and i have been burping alot and my stool is a bright yellow could someone help me with this thank you

Hi banmir - wow, your symptoms are exactally like mine - which began last July right after my cycle.  I never had pain after my cycle and it got severe at times.  My first stop was my family doctor who suspected apendicitis - but the CT was neg.  I then went for my annual OBGYN (3 mos early) and everything checked out OK - even the ultrasound was neg.   I was reading about IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and some of the sypmtoms are similar to mine, and although they don't know the cause or cure, apparently some women have more symptoms during their menstrual cycle which suggest reproductive hormones increase the symptoms - which fits my situation to a "T".  I've thought about seeing a gastro specialists, but am not crazy about going through all those "GI" tests.  So, for now, I'm going to wait it out, watch my diet, and see what happens.  Good luck to you and, if you happen across a diagnosis - please share it with us.

I have had right upper quadrant pain for over a year.  I had every test imaginable - kidney ultra sound, cystoscope, colonscope, bloodwork - CBC, ANA, Sed Rate, ovarian ultra sound.  Everything came back okay except my endyscope which showed gastric ulcers, h. pylori bacteria AND BLACK LINES IN THE LINING OF MY STOMOACH THAT LOOK LIKE GRILL MARKS.  My doctor did a biopsy and it came back positive for h.pylori so I did the 2 week treatment of antibiotics, did the urea breathing test and the bacteria is gone, BUT THE PAIN ISN'T.

I have had right upper quadrant pain for over a year.  The pain is burning, cutting & stabbing.  It's above my waist and in my back.  I also have waves of nausea, and burning in my chest, throat & nose, and a chronic cough.  I have had every test imaginable - kidney ultra sound, cystoscope, colonscope, bloodwork - CBC, ANA, Sed Rate, ovarian ultra sound, abdominal and pelvic CT, abdominal ultra sound.  Everything came back okay except my endyscope which showed gastric ulcers, h. pylori bacteria AND BLACK LINES IN THE LINING OF MY STOMOACH THAT LOOK LIKE STITCHES.  My doctor did a biopsy of my stomach and it came back positive for h.pylori so I did the 2 week treatment of antibiotics, did the urea breathing test and the bacteria is gone, BUT THE PAIN ISN'T.  No doctor seems to know what the black lines in my stomach are.   One doctor thought they might be caused from acid due to a defective stomach valve.  I'm getting ready to schedule an upper GI Series and then will probably do a gastro and lapro scope.   Does anyone have symptoms like these?  I really just want some relief.  Right now, I take aciphex twice a day, and it doesn't seem to do anything.  Any direction you can give me would be appreciated. I really don't want to have anymore unnecessary tests.
