Lower right abdomen pain - help?

Lower right abdomen pain - help?

I'm a male in my 20s; I eat healthy, exercise regularly, and live an active life. However, for the past three-and-a-half months I've been experiencing recurring pain/soreness in my lower right abdomen: 2 inches down and 3-4 inches to the right of my navel.

Overall, the pain is mild, and my only symptom. No diarrhea, no fever, no change in appetite; just a weird, hard-to-describe pain. It comes and goes irregularly, but tends to be worse in the evening (after dinner). I went to my primary care physician who took blood, urine, and stool samples - all came back normal with no signs of infection. I was told to get plenty of rest, increase my water and fiber intake, and monitor the pain. After four weeks with no improvement, I went back to my doc who ordered a CT scan (with contrast) of my entire abdomen and pelvis. The scan came back normal - appendix was fine; no hernias; no signs of any inflammation or ulceration. I was again advised to rest, drink water, and monitor the pain. After another four weeks with no improvement, I was referred to a gastroenterologist, who believes the pain may be due to a lingering virus. For the third time, I've been told to monitor the pain and see if things improve. If not, the next step (in another 3-4 weeks) is a colonoscopy.

As you can imagine, I'm very frustrated. Neither my primary care or GI doc seem overly concerned - which I guess concerns me because I still don't feel well. Has anyone else been through something like this? Thoughts as to what's going on? Any help is appreciated. I just want to get back to normal. :(

I had similar pain post gallbladder surgery (about 4 months after) and they thought was my appendix, they found some inflammation during my colonoscopy, but ruled it as IBS, i take Metemucil every morning now and some anti spasm drugs when i get the pain (Buscopan) and seems to help a bit.  Can't hurt to have the colonoscopy to rule out chrones, ulcerative colitis etc...I also wonder how common chronic appendicitis is as i dont have any other symtoms (symptoms) of IBS except the pain that comes and goes... let me know what they find i hope you feel better.

Update: Colonoscopy came back normal (thankfully). Doc diagnosed it as IBS. I'm taking a daily probiotic, and I have meds to help with spasmodic pain as needed - luckily it only bothers me a day or two per month. Glad I went to get it checked out.
