Mucous and Blood but no stool

Today I was woken up with horrible stomach pains. You know the kind when you are on the toilet and you start swetting and not sure which end it is going to come out of. Then you finally have diarrhea and after several episodes you feel better. Well ,I still have not felt better all day. I keep getting stomach pains like I am going to have diarrhea but all that is coming out is mucous with blood in it. No stool. I am really concerned ,as this has never happened before. I also can not remember when I had my last BM. Of course all I can think about is cancer or an obstruction. Please help. I plan on calling my MD on Monday to get an appt.
