Mucous followed by lots of blood for months Help please.

by RocketRobinhood, Jul 19, 2009 05:22PM
Hello just some background information .. i am a 24 year old male who has quit smoking cigs and weed 5 months ago, i eat very healthy ,, liquid fishoil daily,, a multivitamin vitamin c, organic hemp protein, and organic vegge fruit mix daily. i run 3 times a week 30 minutes a run. Back in Feburary i started getting severe panic attacks, which triggered a 24/7 lightheaded feeling which i still retain to this day although alot better now. In these past months i have had 2 ekgs, about 4 blood tests, chest xray, urine test constantly in the hospital afraid of having some sort of disease.. i am cursed with health anxiety and constantly think that i am dying.

Back in april , as i always do once everymonth i supplement with Wholy tea, been using it for a few months prior to this. The next day after getting rid of some nasty stuff, and going to the bathroom quite a bit i noticed blood streaking the stool.. this lasted for months everyday until about late june. Then i started to get stomach ache, gurgling , lots of gas, and mucous. I went to the hospital because of this ,, and they did a urine liver, pancreas check, and b lood test for anemia and infection . Both were clear as usual ,, and the doctor assured me not to worry, unless it was black and tarry. She told me that given my age ,, and my description of the problem that it was not a big concern and it woudl take a while to get an appointment because i was low priority. Soo i have an appointment for september with a gastro. Now the past 2 weeks ,, i have been having Sudden urges barely being able to make it to the washroom, and going to the washroom about 15 times a day,, mostly passing mucous and blood. The mucous is light brown slimy,, to reddish brown colored slimy.. followed by mucous i start dripping blood and when i wipe there is a fair amount of blood on the toilet paper, and some in the toilet. I have been noticing for the most part if i dont strain there is no/little blood soo i have been trying not to... but when you get the burning sensation that you have to **** alot,, and only mucous  and nothing else is coming out its hard not to push. I also notice coagluated blood sometimes, slimy clumps of it.. im guessing from me pushing and the clotting not getting a chance to heal.. the stool itself is small and thing.. and it is normal colored brown/green no blood inside of it. I have been freaked out for a while added to my health anxiety,, noone in my family has had ulcerative colitis , or chrons , but my mother does have IBS.  i had 2 rectal exams and they both said nothing about it.... like absolutely nothing.. i do notice that there are actually 2 bumps potruding on the outside of my anus not sure if they are hemeroids or not though.

sorry for the long speech i just want to give all the information i can and thanks for taking the time to read it.

I've had severe ulcerative colits for many years now.  Your symptoms are why I went to a gasteroenterologist in the first place.  A colonoscopy is the best way for him to see the whole colon.  For years I took the medication prescribed (still do) and I was in remission.  My son was age 15 when we found out he as a mild case of U.C. too.  He's gone 15 years w/o meds but had a severe flare up a yr ago last Feb. (no insurance).  That worry caused me to have a flare up which I am finally getting control of  again.  I'm sure the gastr. Dr. will be able to help you.  Every year I have a colonoscopy and the worst part of it is the prep!  I actually don't get all the meds to put me out becuse I like to see what it looks like inside  -- after all these years the Dr. doesn't even have to tell me how I'm doing -- I've seen good and bad!  Try not to worry.  Believe me it doesn't help.  Good Luck,  AAR 1151

Thanks for the information and help. i am hoping that it is not UC, but if it is i guess i will have to accept it. i am just a little sketchy on how it all began.. after i started to get severe panic attacks stress and anxiety... hoping that it is simply IBS.and that the constant excessive bathroom use that IBS is causing is making it soo i cannot completely heal the fissure or hemmeroid. i just dont like the fact i have to wait this long to find out. Thanks for the support.

I'm suprised that you haven't been refererred to a GI specialist with your symptoms. Anytime there is bleeding, that's not normal. Given your age and lack of family history, IBS or UC would be likely. Have you had any additional symptoms such as abdominal pain, significant weight loss, or narrow stools. If you don't need a referral by your insurance, I would make an appointment with a GI specialist. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for commenting and given me your advice. I have had no weight loss, and very minimal pain, but i would say there is narrow stools. blood tests and urine( liver pancreas function) tests came back good. white blood cell normal, red blood normal, elecrolytes good.. does this not rule out things? I do have an appointment with a GI but its in september, another month and a half away see i live in canada soo its different dont have to pay directly for doctor visits. not really sure what else i can do.. i hope it is nothing serious. the mucous is sometimes like lightish brown shiny colored, other times its dark reddish brown. thanks again for the help
