Mucus in stool??? Should I be overly worried?

Mucus in stool??? Should I be overly worried?

Hello.  I am a 30 yr. old woman.  I have many issues in the bathrrom.  I gave been noticing a fair amount of mucus when I wipe after I have a bowel movement.  Its always happened but I am just noticing more now.  I had a CT scan done about 4 days ago and that showed no signs of anything life threatening much as a mass on my colon THANK GOD! But I still feel concerned.  My mom died of colon cancer last year.  I am scheduled to see a GI Dr on Monday to talk about having a colonoscopy done, which I am terrified to have because of the
prep and sedation.  I have anxiety over medications due to being so
sensitive to them.  I have also been experiencing lots of pelvic pain near my ovaries.  It felt as though my right ovary was ready to pop out of me lastnight. I do not have too much pain while having a bowel movement though at times I feel immense pressure and sometimes stabbing pains. I haven't been able to eat much because of the pain in my belly.  What I wanted to know is can digestive/colon issues cause pain in my ovary? Or can ovary and hormonal issues cause colon/digestive issues? I don't like being a worry wart but I have a bad family history with both female reproductive issues and colon health.  So I was hoping that someone can give me some insight on this sigs that I don't worry myself half to death while I wait on seeing the dr. What could possibly be causing all this? Anyone have similar symptoms? Also, what was your colonoscopy experience like? I am currently working on quitting smoking.  If you are a smoker or used to be then what was your colonoscopy like? Will my Dr give me a checkup before the procedure? Thanks to anyone who answers.  Just trying to understand what's happening to me and to have some support.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I would recommend you talk to your doctor about getting a referral to a gastroenterologist or a gynecologist.  I had a colonoscopy and everything went fine.  I had no trouble with the sedation.  The prep was pretty annoying, but it wasn't too terrible.  Your doctor should give you a checkup before the procedure.

I know mucus in the stool is often a side effect of IBS. Not sure what else though. I had a colonoscopy and it was not that bad at all. I have had a ton of studies and tests done on me to try to figure out why I have chronic constipation/gas/stomache aches and bloating. When I had my colonoscopy they discovered I have a very long and very twisted colon which is a part of my problem. But for the most part the colonoscopy itself was not that bad and they even had trouble and had to stop mine because of the twists and turns. I was pretty out of it and didnt really realize all that was going on. The prep was the fun part.. being sarcastic. For me especially since I have constipation issues it caused me some stomach upset and took longer then average for me to start going but when I did I didnt stop until sometime in the morning before my procedure. But I was cleaned out and thats the whole point. It tastes terrible but you will get through it!
