My 7 year old son has Gull Bladder Sluge

I do not know what to do my poor son is very sick. He is not getting better.I went to the pediatrician today for the 2nd time this week they ordered blood work X ray and ultrasound of his abdomen. We found out he has sludge in his gall bladder the Doctor consulted a pediatric Gastro - Doctor and he said that should not cause pain.
So they say it must be a virus. This has been going on since the 14th and today he started vomiting the 19th.He has lost two pounds and is in pain how much longer?

This discussion is related to Can Sludge in the Gallbladder cause pain.

I am about at my wits end! i have had 3 CT scans (liver, pancre.) ultrasound (gallbladder) scope down my throat. I was told today i have sludge in my gallbladder and if my problems continue to give them a call. HELLO!!!! im in pain! so now i have to have another scan. not sure what kind but sounds like another ct. a dye contrast. i eat 3 or 4 bites of food, i get upper center pain, alot of gas and heart burn, scope showed no acid reflux or ulcer, i will get a feeling like, well when i was pregnant and the boys were fiddling with something in there, then WHAM a sharp pain. vomited once when i wasnt even upset it just happened out of the blue, real strange, on and off again diaherrea feel real bloated and i am not eating alot, have to eat very little all day long, they have been testing me for everything for 2 months. green, black and normal stools all blood tests normal, my D is low that is all. no infections although the sharp pains i get on lower right he thinks was a viral thing that is still there after 2 months, appendix is fine?? I feel like they think im crazy or something.  Could sludge be doing all of this?

Did you ask to be put on a cancellation list?  Also, ask your pediatrician if she will call and try to move this up for you.  Keep your son well hydrated which will be easier without the vomiting.  Gatorade (give him the G2 which is low in sugar) if you can't find this, dilute the regular Gatorade for better absorption, orange juice and bananas will replenish his electrolytes, plus plenty of water.  Give him yogurt enriched with probiotics as well, I'm sure all his good bacteria is gone with the vomiting and diarrhea.  This should help with the diarrhea as well.  I wish you all the best, I feel so sorry for your little guy.

I would go ahead and get him into see a GI doc right away.  There are a lot of unanswered questions where your son is concerned, and he shouldn't have to endure more suffering before they do something.  Why he has this at such a young age is important to know regarding what steps need to be taken now and in the future.  As a mother I know your worry, but you need answers and a game plan now.

That is exactly what I am afraid of. He starts 2nd grade on the 7th and I am worried that this will come back. From what I read there is not much they can do until it gets real bad and then it would be surgery. How long would he have to go through these attacks before they would do something?

The symptoms can come and go, and will eventually worsen.  I would definitely have him see a Gastroenterologist.

Today is a good day.My son is holding down his fluid and food.
He tells me it does not hurt bad today just a little pain on the right below his rib cage.
Do you think the sludge could be gone?

Sludge in the gallbladder can cause intense pain in both adults and children. Please make sure he is seen by a GI person who can evaluate his condition thoroughly.

The movement of that sludge from the gallbladder through the common bile duct into the duodenum can be very painful and cause some serious consequences. Please push to have him checked out.

Thank you for your input.Ricky's pediatrician only talked to the gastroenterologist I think he needs to see one though. since we have been home tonight he has vomit once and diarrhea 3 times the pediatrician said he is slightly dehydrated she would call in the morning I might need to take him in for a IV tomorrow.

Take your son to a different pediatric gastroenterologist, he sounds like he is getting worse, and something is causing the sludge in his gallbladder.  This is very unusual at this age, you need to know "why" he has sludge and "why" it wouldn't cause pain.
