My 11 year old gets stomach ache every day and no relief

My 11 year old son was diagnosed at the age of 4 with IBS. He was on medication since then, however the stomach ache is getting worse. He gets stomach ache every time he eats anything, if he eats too fast or too much. He gets stomach ache accompanied by nausea, when is gets hot. He has had three very bad episodes where the stomach ache lasted up to 48 hours with vomiting and NOTHING took the pain away. He has had a gastroscopy and blood tests and barium meal etc etc etc, and the doctors can find nothing physically wrong with him. I am desperate to help him, please if anyone can offer any advice it would be much appreciated.

I agree with the above poster's suggestions about food allergy and celiac.  I also would like to say if your child has been on medication for IBS since the age of four and he still has problems at the age of eleven, I can't help but think his physician needs to reevaluate the need for whatever drug he is on, because sometimes they have negative side effects.

If he hasn't been tested for celiac problems, you might consider having that done. Or alternatively, you might want to try a gluten-free diet and see if that changes anything since some of the celiac testing isn't very accurate. A fair amount of 'negative' results are found when one actually has celiac problems.

Ask around in your families to see if there is anyone who has celiac or any form of food intolerance. Many people with IBS are actually 'silent celiacs.'
