My boyfriend is 18, for the past few yrs he had had stomach pains especially after eating, and has had a lot of blood in his stool. He is thin and does not have a large appetite. Often  he is not hungry, or if he eats too much he will have pain. He has gone to a doctor once only, who took xrays but didnt find anything. the doctor prescribed an acid reflux medicine but it didnt help. My boyfriend thinks that antacids do not help or even add to the pain and thinks that milk or spicy foods also increases pain. His aunt has also experienced simular pain but not to his extent. I am greatly concerned for his health and I do not believe he was brought up in a family who cared for him and his health properly. He also thinks he will just deal with the pain and not go to see doctors. If I can get an idea of what might be wrong with him, I think I might help lead him in a direction to get help for his symptoms. Please responf. Thank you.

Your boyfriend needs to see a GI specialist(gastroenterologist) as soon as possible. Blood in the stool is never normal. There are a few signs that raise eyebrows. His weight, his appetite, the blood in the stool, and the amount of time that this has been going on.
There are diseases that can cause the symtptoms you describe but your boyfriend needs to be "worked up" (tested) for these. An x-ray is not going to solve these problems. Please explain to your boyfriend that this can be extremely serious if he doesn't seek help soon. This is certainly nothing to be cavalier about. I know as a teenager or young adult, the mentality is to not worry wbout it. But understand, this is something to worry about. Get some help so both of you can be put at ease. Take care and good luck...
