NSAID gastritis

Hi,

I took large doses of Aspirin to prevent DVT couple of months ago and have I terrible problems since.  Endoscopy was rather inconclusive.

I am a 47 y old female. I'm slim in good health, eat healthy. Great marriage, no stress. Although I suffered from various digestive problems in the past (had surgery 6 months ago for perforated diverticulitis after an infection and cholecystectomy in my twenties) I never had stomach problems before. Two months ago before a flight I took 1,000 mg Aspirin at night followed by 500 mg the next morning. I was entertaining clients the following two nights and had few glasses of wine each night.  I also continued to have coffee. Four days later when Mylanta/Zantac didn't help I was put on 600 mg Zantac/40 mg Somac/day but got no relief. My mount was watering terribly at night and had the feeling of uncontrollable hunger/pain that kept me awake all night long for 6 nights in a row. At this point I had an endoscopy.

NO reflux oesophagitis or hiatus hernia. No ulcer or scar. Normal amount of bile stained juice in stomach. Very mild antral gastritis. Duodenum normal to second part. No Helicobacter organisms. Diagnosis: moderate chronic gastritis.  My specialist told me that  I can eat or drink anything, it will make no difference.

I am taking 40 mg Nexium that doesn't seem to do much.  I completely cut out coffee, tea, alcohol, spicy and acidy food yet more often than not I still have nightly pain and always have a sour taste in my mouth after eating (one the six daily small portions of my blend diet). Problems are worst at night although I have dinner four hours prior bed time.

Q. it seems clear to me that this is directly related to the Aspirin yet my specialist says it is chronic gastritis, it won't go away, there is no cure and I have to live with it. I am also aware that prior to discovering H. pylori, some GP's recognized the correlation between ulcers and antibiotics even though they couldn't explain why they helped.  Is there any medication that might be helpful for any reason?  I assume I damaged my stomach mucosa/lining?  Does it regenerate the same way as the liver?  What should I take to encourage regeneration?  I am taking Aloe Vera 80 mg/day, Manuka honey 2 teaspoon/day and 3-4 cups of Chamomile tea. Is there anything else I should try?

PLEASE help.  I can not live like this. I am ready to do anything to get my health back, sleep through the nights and have a decent meal again.

Kindest regards
