My 15 year old daughter has been diagnosed with gastroparesisGastroparesis. This has been terrible. I am worried that this is a life-long problem that she will have to endure. She is normally a very healthy teenager. We have seen many doctors and she is on Reglan to help her eat. Still has stomach pain when she eats. On a low-fiber, low-fat diet which makes it hard to put weight back on...has lost 15 pounds so far in 3 months.
I am needing a doctor that specializes in this area. Any good ones out there?
I'd suggest you check with the closest university-associated teaching hospital in your area. That's typically where you'll find docs who are up-to-date on a broad range of GI issues.
I second CalGal's suggestion. I would also advise to find a gastroparesisGastroparesissupportSupport Support 500 group, online or off. (Yahoo groups has a pretty good GP group.) This way you have one place with a large concentration on people who are knowledgeable about the condition as well as about new treatment options and doctor recommendations.
My son, who is 12 years old, was recently diagnosed with gastroparesisGastroparesis. If you live anywhere near VCU in Richmond, VA, they have two doctors who treat pediatric gastroparesis.
