Can I take NexiumNexium Nexium i.v. and Synthroid (generic of synthroid) at the same time in the morning? Both have to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, an hour or so before a meal. I stopped the NexiumNexium Nexium i.v. since starting the Synthroid a couple of weeks ago because I was afraid to take both together and thought the synthroid was more important, but am now back to having digestive problems that the Nexium helped.
I am a 37 year old male who has been on Synthroid since 2006 after a total thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer I also suffer from chronic GERD and gastritis and I am on Nexium as well..Both my Doctors (Gastro and Endo) told there is no interaction between Nexium and Synthroid. However, other drugs used in the treatment of symptoms of GERD including antacids (Maalox, Mylanta, Rolaids for example) as well as Carafate (also known as sucralfate) can cause problems with Synthroid. If these drugs are taken around the same time as Synthroid they can reduce the amount of Synthroid that is absorbed. This can lead to decreased blood levels of thyroid hormone and cause symptoms including fatigue, weakness, weight gain, intolerance to cold, hair and skin changes, constipation, irritability, memory loss and menstrual changes. SO if you are taking any of the other medications mentioned above except the Nexium space them about 4 hours from the Synthroid. I recommend asking your Dr, for name brand Synthroid instead of generic. I find I had your mentioned symptoms with generic Synthroid. Good luck
