Nissen fundoplication pain

my 54 year old mom had a fundoplication and it has been 2 1/2 years and on thankgiving she had some dip with veggies She got pain so bad in her chest she thought she was going to die. This was a once in a while thing now it is more frequent almost everything she eats cause her pain in her chest and back. She was put on nexium and it is still happening what could be causing this pain and what test can her doctor do to make sure that something didn't go wrong with the surgery, that can be causing this pain.
