Nissen help

by RaineyT, Mar 07, 2008 10:09AM
I had a very successful nissen in 2001.  I have not had any reflux since.  I am looking to find out if there are any weight loss surgeries available to people that have had the nissen procedure.

This discussion is related to Reflux back after 4 weeks Post Op of Nissen Fundoplication Surgery.

I just had Nissen with partial wrap & hernia repair last week.  Still have a tube in me.  Today I felt like reflux was returning,as I was burning just from my liquid diet!

I was told that since Nissen makes your stomach smaller, you should lose weight.  So far the sugary ensure they gave me has caused weight gain in only one week, and I'm overweight to begin with. Dr.s or Nutritionists don't know what they're doing.

pI called today and told them I will not drink this ensure anymore, or will at least cut back on it and use higher protein/lower carb drinks to reduce the damned calories.

I don't know about lap band after a nissen, but would just call one of those centers advertised (block your phone number) and ask.  Or look one up on the net and ask.

I would not recomend a bypass surgery. To dangerous, many have had major problems & death, like my friend's wife.

Yesterday my cousin told me a friend of hers had wt loss surgery and lost all the weight she wanted to, looked great, then started gaining again, all of it back plus more. Why?  No willpower at all and psychological problems is my guess.  In order to do this one would have to be eating round the clock, because the stomach is small and you can only hold a small amount of food at one time compared to the large means you used to eat.  So I guess she wanted the large meals, like a day-long buffet, and stretched her stomach back out.(?)  The short answer:  She's A Pig!
