tube to his stomach and drained liters of fluid for several days. Then they said he was ok and it was a virus that caused all of this. He was released from the hospital after 12 days and the following day he started bleeding again.
Please go to the doctor right now, it could be some systemic reaction (many causes, check the link below) which causes generalized bleeding, maybe a part of disseminated intravascular coagulation. This could be from snake bite, medicine, infection...
He is 43, Overweight, Diabetic and careless on his medicines. He went to his Primary Dr 12/29/07 because he was not feeling well. he had a sore throat and the red/purple spots all over. They gave in penicilian for a throat infection and sent him home. the spots first they were small like a marker tip. Then some of them got larger and looks like the vessels are bleeding under the skin. Then he started bleeding a lot when he went to the bathroom (rectal) so he went to the ER 1/1/08. They admitted him and ran a bunch a test. They said a virus caused the Uper GI blockage, GI bleeding and the spots all over his body. He was released 01/12/08 and he was feelig weak, but not bleeding rectally. Then next day 12/13/08 he went to the bathroom at home and the bleeding started again. We called the parametics and he went back to the hospital and they admitted him again.
During the first stay they had a GI dr, Rumatologist, and infection disease doctor look at him and test him. I have pictures of him at the hosptial with the spots, they don't look like a virus.
His bleeding was gradudule before his first stay. By the time he was admited 1/1/08 it was alot of blood. Yesterday it started out like a trickle then it got worse when he was in the ER.
I spoke with the doctor today, he said My brother has Vascuilis. They are treating him with steroids and will do an endo to see what is going on inside of him. Just want to let you know.
With endo you mean endoscopy? Which one upper one or colonoscopy? What was the cause of that blockage you've ment in the first post? Virus isn't enough to cause blockage.
Is he constipated otherwise? Both that blockage and vasculitis may be caused by uncontrolled diabetes. He should really arrange this with the help of endocrinologist.
Those changes in the throat were probably not from infection, but the same as in the skin - bleeding.
