One week post op Lap Nissen Fundoplication Surgery--NEED HELP!

Hello,
One week ago tomorrow I had Laproscopic Lap Nissen Fundoplication surgery to repair a hiatus hernia and eliminate GERD.  Since the surgery, I cannot burp and terrible gas builds up with EXTREME bloating.  I have read articles saying that this is common, and additionally, I may never be able to vomit when I become sick. Here are my questions:

1. Will I EVER be able to burp?
2. Isn't it dangerous not to expel something your body is telling you to get rid of?  What will happen?
3. Is there something to alleviate this horrible bloating?  I look like I am 5 months pregnant, and I am 55 years old--not a pretty sight!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I think I have made a HUGE mistake!

Thank you,
Yvette
