Hello Doctor,
I'm writing on behalf of my husband who has always had a touch of IBS, but in the last 8 months his symptoms have become exponentially worse to the point of incontinence. He has lost his job and has to wear adult diapers every day- he is only 27 years old. We are living abroad and are seeing a specialist, yet have not had a diagnosis after two colonoscopies, a CT scan, and swallowing the microcam. We have tried elimination diets and tested for food allergies, and have eliminatedmost disorders like Cron's disease or diverticulitus. Because the Micro cam didn't findanything, the doctor here seems convinced the problem is psycological and has referred him to a psyciatrist and perscribed xanax, which only helps his anxiety over leaving the house when he won't be near a bathroom. How can it be psycological when he'll be sleeping and then all of the sudden wakes with horrible cramps followed by hours of diorrhea?
Is it possible that a problem with the Pancreas is going undected? My husband has had both kidney stones and gall stones in the last three years and used to be a heavy smoker/drinker- he also has a hard lump just below the navel, from what I've read online, these things seem to be associated with pancreatic problems.
Should I assume that our Gastroenterologist has considered this already? Would something have shown on the CT scan when they were looking at the colon or in all of the routine bloodwork they do? My husband should be in his prime, he excersizes daily and is otherwise very healthy. Is there anything else to consider?
Thanks for your time and have a nice day.
Naila
