PBC Primary Biliairy Cirrhosis

I have had a history for about 18 months of elevated liver enzymes and was (last fall) referred to a gastroenterologist.  I had a HIDA scan which showed my gallblaldder was 12% (ejection) and further blood work (more tests than before) with a lot of alphabet names (4 tubes of blood drawn) showed that it was likely that I have PBC.  I'm now taking Urso Forte to delay the progression and am greatful for a reason to be exhausted so often (thought I was getting old and lazy).  Anyway,  my gallbladder is still present and symptoms are becoming more constant, though I'm only discomforted and not in the excrutiating pain some have told me about.  My gastro doc wants me to have it removed now...we've been patient long enough.  Is this reasonable, as I think it is, or am I just wimping out??  I have memories of my Mom' (deceased) going through a horrendous time (long before laporoscopy) and having been so very ill that she had to go home to get well enough for surgery a month later.  I definiteley want to avoid that.. so I think the advice is good and hope I'm right to agree with my doc.

Thanks for listening.

It sounds very reasonable. But you might want to ask a group of people who are dealing with the issue and have first-hand knowledge: http://pbcers.org/
