If he thinks the waste is sitting right there and ready to come out, but it won't, then go to the drugstore and get "Baby Lax," it's a little box of ointment tubes.  Squirt two in the behind, and it'll come out within minutes.  Might have to repeat.

Quit the stool softeners...if you're severely constipated, soft waste will just pile up at the exit.  And if he recently started or increased some medications that have a drying effect, he'll need to cut back on those...even some vitamins can do this, and also finishing up a round of antibiotics will constipate, too.

If the waste is not near the end, then at the drugstore get an enema bag with a long tube, and begin to do those.  He won't pass waste at first, but eventually the water will eat away at the waste, and in a few days, a little will come out, and thus eventually it will all come out, but it takes time.  That is what they'd do at the hospital.  When you do the enemas, get some plain KY jelly to make it easier to put the tube in.

Another trick I know will work is for him to put a handful of fresh blueberries on his oat cereal, with Acidophilus milk, do this daily for a couple weeks.  Also, daily, have him drink fresh squeezed lemon juice in a glass of water with a little ice and sugar, several glasses each day, and do it also for a couple weeks.  And a few times during that two-week thing of blueberries and lemon juice, have him eat 100 percent whole wheat bread with honey on it.

He should drink alka seltzer to release the gas, which is what is so painful to him.  He should drink plenty of water, altho the lemon water should be enough.  He should also do a little daily walking around the neighborhood with you, because the more active your body is, the better your bowels will work.  Do not worry about a growth doing this, your husband is too young.  But if this goes on for another two weeks, even after trying all the above stuff, then he'll need a scan to make sure he hasn't twisted his bowels or something really unusual like that.  Post back and let us know how things go.

Thank you soo much .. we will definitely have him try this…  I am just really worried since he is never sick.. I myself have been really ill and almost died last year.. Spent 4 months in hospital and had over 30 surgeries… so now being that close to death has made me paranoid about losing him…. I really appreciate your advice and will let you know how this works!! Thanks!!!!!!!

i'm in the same situation, the gi doctor said ti's ibs, i went to 3 gynecologists since i'm a woman, and said my pelvis/cervix and ovaries are fine,  ( i went to the gyn also because i had light periods but i was under a lot of stress now my periods are normal but not heavy as before) what bothers me more is constipation because prolonged constipation makes you feel bloated! i am going to a different gi doctor i feel the tests like colonoscopy , abdominal/pelvic ultrasound, the blood tests he done are not enough! one of my doctors prescribed me antidepressants because he thinks that my constipation is due to stress...today i had a small urge to go and i did twice pellet like stools sometimes a bit bigger..i still think i have obstruction no one can take it out of my mind...still i eat but not vomit i can sleep, i have no fever ( although i feel hot) but being hot due to ibs is common i heard and read..! i want to see another gi doctor because my collegue says he is the best hope this month worth of waiting is not meant for nothing...
hope your husband feels better ibs can be quite boring if has obstipation (lack of stools) as a symptom

I've been dealing with IBS-C for years and finally figured out it's a food intolerance..i'd go on a food elimination diet..just eggs for breakfast..spinach blocks/salads...no dairy or wheat basically ...but something for lunch and for dinner maybe chicken or steak...potatoes....do that for a week with a good multivitamin...if he improves at all you might find an answer.  Or get online and find a food elimination diet plan..i'd cut out the dairy if you haven't already (casein as well)

Lactose intolerant people sometimes get severe constipation...even something simple as soy can cause severe problems..so yeah keep up on the fiber and don't go too crazy on ducolax or anything but miralax is a good safe long term thing to use..keep drinking water and keep fighting (wish I had a wifey taking care of me like that...lucky guy..)

good luck!

I'll have to try what ggreg mentioned.  Again.  Whoever it was that said they are taking anti-depressants beware that some of those have side affects including constipation.  In some cases they told me any med may have a side-effect such as this and it isn't mentioned with the medication information sheet.  Or may just affect you that way.  Docs thought those would help me with chronic pain issues but did not, just made me goofy and spacey.

I have gone up to 18 days without a movement, it was horrible.  I had what I think was called a sonogram and showed no blockage or obstruction.  I tried everything in the books.  Nothing the hospital or doc gave me didn't help.  Even the stuff they give you to clean out for a colonoscopy didn't work.  According to them they said they couldn't do anything unless it required surgery since nothing tried worked.  Said I was just getting older and now may have a slow and dry bowel.  But I drink plenty of fluids, use fibers, the yogurt and etc.  Tried all kinds of diets. Suppositories or enema didn't move a thing and it (stool) seemed to be in place higher up and around the colon where it couldn't be reached using them.  So I was sent home to deal with it on my own and just wait until the happy day.

Later, on the eighteenth day when it did move and smelly and thick like black tar the end portion was told that it was fermenting which causes that.  So it doesn't seem to me the docs can't do anything much until it gets really severe and needs surgery.  It's weird because I know many people dying from this stuff and bowel problems so its no laughing matter.  One best friend just died in less than a week that was constipated and  had blockage, plus had a perforation.  Putting a bad infection in his system they couldn't do much about after surgery.

I know years ago my dad had some kind of clean-out done from the back-side by his doctor.  He called it a digging out but such a thing was not mentioned by the doctors and nurses I saw.

I did so much stuff I don't know if it just went on its own or from something I drank or did.  So I just do what I can to keep things going.  Thankfully I may not go for about five days and that okay compared to what I dealt with before, although not as frequent as I'd like.  But then again if I don't eat much then then not much is coming out and seems it takes just as long to pass.
