PLEASE HELP!

by nbgirl, Dec 21, 2002 12:00AM
My mom is in the hospital as we speak with several diagnosis from Diverticulitis to cancer and we won't know anything until Monday when she goes into surgery at 7:00am!  She started having pains when she laid down about five days ago and finally went into the hospital on Tuesday.  The doctor first thought that her gallbladder was the culprit and discovered a large golf ball size stone in the barium xray.  She has had an MRI and a scope down her throat and still NO SPECIFIC problem has been discovered outside of a small (about an inch) in her small intenstine that is dark (might be a tumor .. might be an ulcer) might be nothing?  Doc is saying could be cancer could be nothing, HOW DO I KNOW what to expect with all the tests in the world and all the I DONT KNOW's that we are getting?  Her pancreas is inflammed and is the reason for her pain according to the doc, however my grandfather (her father) had cander of the pancreas and it was too late for helping him out.  I need somone to give me some idea of possible issues here and if they are familiar with removing a portion of the small instestine that may have the "C" word, is it hopeful?  Why so many tests that show nothing and the best news we have heard so far is not cloudy on the scope test and all her other organs are healthy.
Thank you for hearing me out, I am scared.

I can understand how afraid for your mom you must be. Luckily she went to the hospital and they are running tests and doing their best to help her. Many, many people have had surgeries and have survived. The doctors will know more about your mother's condition after the surgery. Please try to be strong for your mom. she must be very scared for herself and the unknown, on top of not feeling well. She knows you love her and are very concerned for her. Try to show abit of humor if you can to ease her worries about you, too. Good luck.

I appreciate your kind words and I am being as strong as I possibly can from such a distance (shes in Florida and I am in Michigan) ... we laugh and we cry both at the same time and today for some reason is the hardest for me.  My sister and niece are in Florida right now spending time with her and I feel like such a burden wanting to call and know what is going on and with all the tests they have done, nothing is concrete and its upsetting me the most.  I feel they can get rid of what ever is causing the pain in her insides with the surgery, I just hope that this will be the end of the problem and that we can move forward with leaving it behind.

Have a happy holiday and if you believe in prayer please say one for my mom S. Vilums her surgery is at 7:00am Monday morning.

I will be more than happy to be a prayer warrior for your mother tonight.  I will make sure that tonight, and at 7:00 in the morning that I and my children are praying for her.  Be strong and have faith.  Believe me, I know how hard it is.  I will also be praying for you tomorrow.  I know it will be hard waiting to hear from for family tomorrow and having to be so far away.  Let us know tomorrow how things go.

Thank you kindly!  I talked to my mom about an hour ago and shes in good spirits.  The doctors and nurses at the hospital have been very upfront and honest with mom and us, so we should have nothing to worry about at this time but nothing is a nothing until they go in for surgery at 7:30am.  Have a blessed day and thank you for your thoughts.
