I started having GERD and LPR about 18 months ago. It took me over 7 months to get it under controlControl Control rx. I took 2 doses of Aciphex a day but due to side effects I switched to 2 doses of PrilosecPrilosec Prilosec otc OTC a day and eventually weened to 1 dose a day. Recently, after some very stressful situations and some rather excessive use of Ibuprophen for occipital neuralgiaCluster headaches Neuralgia Trigeminal neuralgia, symptoms of gastritis/ulcer have developed. I was wondering if it is possible to develop these symptoms while already on a PPI. I have an appt. with a GI in about 3 weeks. My GP just switched my meds. to PrevacidPrevacid Prevacid i.v. Prevacid naprapac 375 Prevacid naprapac 500 Prevacid solutab. I am concerned the development of new symptoms while on a PPI could signify serious disease.
Sure it's possible. Your GERD may be the result of an H. PyloriHelicobacter pylori Pyloric stenosis infection, and PPIs will only help with the symptoms - they can't cure the infection. Taking excessive doses of ibuprofen or any other NSAID will certainly make the symptoms worse. Make sure you inform your gastro doc about the amount of ibuprofen you've been taking. Hope you feel better!
Thanks for the reply. I will be seeing my GI on Thursday. I was feeling bad today and made a trip to the ER. They scanned my liver, gall bladder and pancreas. All was well with my blood work also. I will definately let him know about the nsaid use and if I'm OK and I get past this, I will NEVER touch nsaids again!
