Pain after eating

Hi

We have been seeing the doctor for over 2 months now for stomach pains that my 7 yr old daughter keeps experiencing, she has actually been complaining of these pains for longer than this but I only started visiting the doctor when her school rang for me to collect her as she was in such pain. At first the docs said she was quite constipated, as when examined her stomach was quite hard, she was put on different laxatives (because despite going back to the docs several times she was still experiencing bad stomach pains), often waking at nite. After a few weeks and several laxatives later (lactulose, suppositries, movicol) and stomach remedies ( senna, gaviscon) she is still experiencing pain. Blood tests for sugar (diabetes), blood count, iron, liver function, thyroid have all come back negative/normal as has urine tests and a stool sample for h.pylori. Also a pelvic scan was normal.

She has been on omeprozole liquid 5ml at night) for just over 2 weeks and was taking gaviscon before meals twice a day. I have only recently stopped the Movicol because to me, once she started the omeprazole - her pain seems to be worse, and because her constipation has now regulated, she passes stools every day now, also diet includes fibre, prune juice, green veg etc.

What I have observed now is that her pain occurs after eating -and I just do not know what to do, I have recently stopped the gaviscon - she was prescribed it before meals - but it didnt seem to make much difference, I am considering putting her back on it and was wondering do you have to be on it for a long time for it to take effect - also with the omeprazole?? Do you have to be taking these medicines for at least a month.

Other than this, my daughter doesnt have any fever, bleeding or vomitting, just this pain which now occurs after eating- when she was constipated the pain was more severe and frequent but I think I can narrow this down to just after eating now.

We are awaiting an abdo scan - but in the meantime, can anyone give any ideas or advice of what to do to help ease these pains.

Thanks

I have a 6 year old daughter and she suffers exactly the same as your daughter does and this has been going on for over 2 years now i have had all the tests you have had done and everything normal, she just recently had an endoscopy done and am waiting to find out the results but she is still in such alot of pain before and after meals and wakes up screaming in pain in the early hours, if nothing shows up with the endoscopy results i am going to request an abdominal scan or x-ray be done. My daughter does not want to eat her food as she knows when she does it it so painful. Karen

Forgot to add - that the stomach pain is around the belly button area, and sometimes does occur even before eating!!
