Pain in Upper R. Qudrnt and Bile Diarhea

PLEASE HELP!!!!!
I had my gall bladder out on Aug. 31/09, laprascoplicaly (sp?)  Since, I've had a horrible cramp under my right rib cage, which at first, I thought was due to my (enlarged) gall bladder being removed, and "stuff" just settling into it's space.  The pain is still there, but as of Sept. 10, I have developed horrible diarhea which is just bile.  I'm afraid to eat, because this will produce bile, which in turn leaves me sitting on the toilet for hours. I have lost 8 pound since the surgery.  The mornings are the worst, upon rising, I will go 6 - 8 times within the first hour, but it's just liquidy bile, bright yellow.  I'm at my witts end...work thinks I'm a suck because this surgery has an expected recovery rate of just a few days.  I feel like I am being guilted into going back to work, even though my doctor has signed my return to work note as Sept. 22nd.  Unless they build a washroom within my office, I feel I'm doomed.  Can anything HELP ME????   Please, anyone with any kind of advice, please send it my way.  Thanks...Barb

I too had my gallbladder out but 6 weeks ago.  I have the same problem with the diarrhea which mine is almost always within 1 hours of getting up.  But I have learned that I must eat low fat and I take a probiotic which helps bulk up my bm by putting good bacteria in my intestines.  I tries questran which is suppose to slow the process of diarrhea down and bulks the BM.  You have to play with the dosage so that you dont get constipation though.  My BM's were also very bright yellow and occasionally still are but I have found as long as I stay on a low fat diet they are not bright yellow.  The removal of my gallbladder did not take away my upper abdomen pain either. I am so upset that I still am in constant pain and now doc is just calling my symtoms IBS which I know it not it but all my test come back normal so not sure what is causing pain :(

Barb, trade whatever you're eating for very low fat and stick to it. It's not going to change anything immediately, but it should help with the diarrhea. In the meantime do a couple of things. Online, google 'lnape and calcium' and see if you can help retard the bile by using calcium as described by lnape. Make sure you use the right type of calcium and take it at the time specified. The only contraindication would be if you have a tendency toward kidney stones or a parathyroid condition.

In addition, ask your doc to try either welchol or questran. And titrate the dosage for your usage. You're going to have to play with either of them to find out what helps and what doesn't swing you toward constipation. Both have drawbacks, but one of them should be able to give you a hand with the diarrhea. You don't want to have to take either or them long-term, if possible - hence the low fat diet.
