Pain in upper left quadrant of abdomen

by Jet5685, Feb 08, 2008 02:30PM
I am a 22 year old female, and I have had moderate pain in my abdomen, specifically in the left upper quadrant that radiates to my side, but not totally to my back. I had bloodwork done and my amylase and lipase levels were slightly elevated. I had a complete abdominal ultrasound and that was normal. I am terrified that I have something horrible like pancreatic cancer. What steps should I take at this point? I am getting the blood work repeated. I am otherwise healthy and currently do not have any other problems besides migraines. Thanks for your help.

Do you drink alcohol?  Large amounts of alcohol ingestion can cause pancreatitis.  Have you had them retested?  Try not to stress or worry about cancer....that is very unlikely given your age.

I have been having discomfort on my left upper abdomen for two months now.  I have been to ED, had a CT scan and it showed gall stones which my doctor said has nothing to do with the left upper abdominal pain.  But before my CT scan I had h pylori and been treated for it.  For a while the pain was gone.  Now that I had my gallbladder removed due to the stones, the pain disappeared as well.  However lately, the upper left abdominal discomfort seems to be back.  I get temporary relief when I pass gas.  My CT scan and blood tests came out normal.  I am now getting paranoid everytime I feel the discomfort.  I though I was alone with this kind of problem.
