Pain in upper right quadrant

Pain in upper right quadrant

I'm a 26-year-old obese female with no children, no pregnancies. Aside from my weight, and the surgery I'm about to mention, I've had no major health problems.

In December of 2006 I began having dull, aching pains in the area around the liver and gallbladder. It was only once in a while, most often after eating something too fatty or too spicy or just eating far too much (in fact it started on Christmas after the big dinner). I never thought anything of it, just that I was eating wrong.

October 2008 I began having gall attacks (the kind that put you on the floor screaming like you've been shot) and, after lots of blood & liver tests, x-rays, and sonograms, I had a laporascopic cholecystectomy. The surgeon reported that I had "a lot" of stones and it was a very good thing the surgery was done when it was. I was released after 24 hours and recovered perfectly well.

It's been three months since surgery, though, and I'm still getting those dull aching pains whenever I eat wrong. It's only came back on in the past couple of months, but it's the same exact sort of dull ache and in the same area for the same reasons. Logic is telling me that with all those blood tests, all the liver enzyme function tests, the x-rays, the sonograms... if there was something else wrong with my liver or spleen or intestines in that area, they would've KNOWN.

I would love to hear that this is normal for people who've had stones and gallbladder removal... that you simply shouldn't eat high fats or over-eat because you'll have pain like this all the time.

I had mine removed in 2004 and I get frequent pains in the area, usually minor compared to the attacks before removal, but a few times bad enough to go back to see the doctor. Haven't had any resolutions yet. It does seem fat food makes it worse for me at least.
