Pain upper quandrant right side

Pain upper quandrant right side

I am a 61 year old male who was diagnosed 3 years ago with esophagheal cancer.  Following radiation treatment, chemotheraphy and Ivor Lewis Trans Thoracic surgery I am now in remission.  One year following treatments I had a simultaneous bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax.  Since that time I have had a dull pain in the upper quandrant of my right side.  The pain is just below the rib cage on the right side. When I awaken in the morning I have pain in my chest in the rib cage area.  I have had numeous CT scans and X-rays and they reveal nothing abnormal.  My physicians believe the cause of the pain is scar tissue caused by the 3 chest tubes I have had during surgery or the bilateral pneumothorax.  What else can be the cause of the pain?  And, is there any possible treatment?

Thats great that you are in remission.
Upper right quad pain, that could probably be anything - doesn't have to mean its something serious. It sounds like it is related to bsp since it happened at that time.

Have your liver enzymes checked because the liver, if inflamed, you would get upper right quad pain.  Hepatitus (hepatitis) panel maybe should be done. doubt that is the problem, but just to rule things out, maybe you should get the test.

good luck,
