Painful gas starts sharply at 4am in colon. How many hours before did I eat this food to hit me at 4am?

The gas is painful on my left side of colon. So now trying to figure out what time frame it takes to reach the beginning of my left colon to identify what I am eating hours before.

The guessed answer I am looking for would be about 2, 4, 6, 8 hours ect.. So then I can start to narrow down foods in that time frame. I eat on a set schedule and it hits sharply at 4am. My guess is breakfast but don't know. I change breakfast and gas still happens 4am sharp. It's odd so I believe it is something I am eating and digesting. Please take a guess. I also have a slow digestive system (part of the problem) to factor in. Thank you.

Crystal, try changing your diet - think breakfast - but in addition try adding some probiotics to your diet. They're the good bacteria that you should have in your GI tract but may not due to medication, illness or antibiotic use. A lot of 'gas' can be traced by to the by-products produced by the bacteria in our system when they 'ingest' the food stuffs that are moving through the colon. Some decent brands are Culturelle, Digestive Advantage-IBS and FloraQ among others.

I have changed every single food except for Apples, Blueberries and Sugar. I am removing these 3 items from my diet today. That's all that is left to change. It's either one of these 3 or just thats when my intestine is empty and triggering gas. But definitely an answer tonight as I have ruled out all other foods over the past months. Every night it happens. If it still happens tonight I am skipping food for a whole day to see if it still happens. This is messed up, how can it be so hard to identify? At least I know what it is not.

If you have fructose intolerance, than the cause of bloating are apples. You can remove all three from the diet, and then (after 4 days), re-introduce sugar and then blueberries.

Hi. It didn't happen last night. I brought back sugar and was fine so it was either apples or berries. :) I'd never heard of a fructose intolerance. Is it only apples or other fruits included. I also see in lots of things fructose corn syrup. Is that the same fructose too and should I stay away from anything that has the word fructose in it? I can't believe how many foods are hurting me.

Fructose is (in various amounts) in all fruits, fruit juices, and many foods and drinks sweetend with high fructose corn syrup. In fructose intolerance, sorbitol (in diet sodas or "sugar freE" chewing gum) can also affect you.

I invite you to read this:

If you have fructose intolerance, you can still ingest certain amount of fructose - tolerance threshold for fructose may vary a lot from person to person.

People with fructose intolerance often also have lactose intolerance, which, again, may be of various extent.
