Pancreatitis diagnosis

Hi All,

Two days ago, I experienced discomfort in my upper abdomen after waking up and having a cup of tea. It progressed to moderate/severe pain (6 out of a scale of 10) after I had a cup of soup for lunch. I also began to be extremely nauseated.  I immediately went to my primary care doctor who ordered blood tests and sent me home after giving a shot to decrease nausea. I vomitted 6-8 times that evening and eventually fell asleep.

I felt better next day and returned to see the doctor today (2 days after the problem). My blood work results showed elevated amylase (370) and lipase (850), The doctor diagnosed me with pancreatitis. My pain and discomfort has subsided by day 3.

Could the experts here confirm the diagnosis? I am 38, no history of alcohol abuse although I have a beer or two every other day. I intend to completely give up alcohol and fatty foods.

If it is pancreatitis, can i expect additional attacks? Any pointers in avoiding attacks will be most appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Andy
