Paraplegic trying to avoid a colostomy...

I am a C7-T1 Spinal Cord injured patient that had bladder augmentation in 04 so parts of my intestine have been sacrificed for my bladder. I also have gluten and lactose issues and am on 100 mg of Zoloft per day. Even if I eat only bananas, brown rice, gluten free toast, I still have diarrhea 1 day in 3-4. My body no longer responds to Pepto or Imodium. I take probiotics, watch what I eat. I'm at my wits end. Please advise.

NoDecalPlz, what portions of your intest were used for the bladder? If you're talking about portions of the large intestine, it could be part of the cause of your diarrhea. The function of the large intestine - to a large extent - is to withdraw water from the fecal material and 'compact' it. When parts are removed, you can end up with diarrhea because the water will pass through and the product will be more of a liquid state.

If it's the large intestine that was modified, check Morecambe's posts. That gentleman has some great advice for diet that may help firm up the fecal material and give you a hand.
