Pediatric gastro question

My daughter is 10 mnths old, since she was a baby she projectile vomits a few times a week, my ped has placed her on zantac for reflux.    She refuses to eat any food, baby or table food only 1-2 bites and thats it, only drinks bottle.   Last night she vomited and I noticed the cheese she ate for lunch was never digested.   should I be concerned?

Hello! My little girl had the same thing, but it wasn't noticed until she was 6 months old, as I was able to breast feed...I was told to make a special formula for her that had whole goat milk, liquid vitamins, and brewers yeast in it, then slowly introduce rice cereal with the formula mixed in...and then pureed foods like mashed potatoes, yams, wild rice and scrambled eggs...I refused to put her on reflux meds because they decrease the stomach acid and thus impedes the body's ability to digest and absorb vitamins and minerals...It was suspected she was developing a malabsorption disorder, and was having trouble absorbing B vitamins...she is happy and healthy, and growing like a weed now! She only has minimal dairy products, (she's not lactose intolerant, but we were told to minimize them in her diet), and takes a good daily vitamin/ mineral supplement...she also gets Papaya enzymes (chewable and yummy!) with any meals that have meat or high fat content...She has no evidence of malabsorption problems, but she has a yearly physical to be sure...Hope this helps...

Reflux was proved or just suspected? Zantac helped?
She also has diarrhea? Changed color of stool? She's of normal weight?

Undigested cheese may be found in the stool also?

Stool test would show eventual malabsorption.
I think, she would need a gastroscopy, or a contrast investigation (upper GI) - if they do it for babies.

Problems underlying cheese indigestion may be due to:
- lactose intolerance (milk-free diet for a couple of days would improve symptoms)
- allergy to milk
- malabsorption due to any cause

Well, all above 3 causes would go with constant diarrhea.
