Pilonidal Excision/Recovery?

Pilonidal Excision/Recovery?

I had a complex pilonidal excision performed about 3 months ago, and was left with a gaping wound (about 3 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 2 inches deep) that had to be packed daily. The wound has completely closed, with no infection. However, the scar (about 2 inches long) is still very tender. If I bend over too far, or sit down wrong, the skin at the bottom of the scar will split, which is quite uncomfortable. How long can I expect my scar to be tender, and is there anything I can do to speed up the healing process? Right now I apply a bit of A&D ointment twice a day, because the scar itself is very dry and flaky, and it itches quite a bit. Should I keep doing this, or should I use something else, or nothing at all?
