I'm asking this on behalf of my father, who had surgery for colon cancer.
He's 68 years old, and he had surgery for colon cancer on 11/20/06. My father's completely cured. (The tumor was confined to the colon only) The surgeon didn't even have to give him a temporary bag! So he's very, very lucky. However, he's still having problems with bowel movements: uncontrollable diarrhea and his colon still hurts--where the surgeon reattached him.
Is this a normal side effect of the surgery, and if it is, how much longer before he starts to feel better? I know everyone heals differently, but is it normal to still feel pain and have this uncontrollable diarrhea this long after colon cancer surgery? Has anyone else who's had colon cancer surgery experienced the above? What did you do about it? Thank you for any advice you can give him!
I know this isn't related but I would suggest he get with the Drs soonest...when I was screened for colon cancer (colonoscopy) they were pretty adament that if I had any of these (and many other symptoms) to contact them immediatly...while every thing may be fine wrt cx, something may need to be checked from the actual proceedure...
