Possible PBC

by AnnaDavisAdams, Aug 02, 2001 12:00AM
On doing research for Xanthomas, before I again have them removed from eyelids, I ran across a possible correlation between Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and Celiac Sprue.  I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue in 1988 and my cholesteol went from 120 to 200.  I also have thin red lines on my thighs, do not see any red centers, but do have several red pinpoint dots on legs, chest, and abdomen.  Bilirubin was on the high normal, and SGOT slightly elevated on last lab and my cholesterol is still 240 even after a year of being on low fat, low saturated fat diet and increased exercise.

I also had my paternal grandmother die of non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and several of her children die of liver cancer.

Is is possible that I have PBC with the above symptoms?  Should I move my appointment with my HMO primary care provider up from mid October?

Anna,
I have found a couple of good web sights on PBC one is the PBC foundation.  http://www.nhtech.demon.co.uk/pbc/primary.html

Another one on PBC is from Columbia university written by Howard J. Worman,M.D. http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/dept/gi/PBC.html

Good luck let me know if these sights were helpful.
