Post OP Gallbladder Surgery Problems

I had my gallbladder removed on 07/19/07 done laporoscopy.  I went to my HIV doctor yesterday because my stomach is very extended, i have pain, i am burping up the taste of food, i am not having regualr BM, nausea and loss of apetite and dont feel good.  He put me on Amitiza and laxitives taken anal.  He said my Intestines were still sleeping and not working correctly.  This was 36 hrs ago.  Since taking the meds I have had numerous episodes of diarherra.  My stomach is still extended, i have very little apeptite and also several times a day I think I need to have a BM and all that comes out is stuff that looks like tissue.  What should I do?  My HIV doctor is my Internal MD.

Thanks

Are you still taking pain medications?  That could be causing a lot of the problem since they are very constipation and slow gut motility.  Your doc has a good point about "sleeping" intestines.  Intestines just don't like to be messed with in any way, and tend to revolt for a while.  It took me a month or more to achieve some semblance of normalcy after bowel resection surgery.

If you returned to your normal diet right after surgery, your gut just may not be quite ready for it.  Try stepping up the liquids like light soups, yogurt, smoothies, jello - your basic hospital-type food - for a few days and see if things start calming down.

You may also still have sludge left in the bile duct that is causing continued symptoms, or a problem with the Sphincter of Oddi.  Ask a gastroenterologist about about your symptoms.  While your HIV doc should be included in your health decisions, you probably need a gastro doc to manage these latest symptoms and do further investigations if they continue for much longer.
