Post diverticulitis recover

I had diverticulitis in March.  I was hospitalized for 3 days on IV antibiotics and clear fluids.  I took the remaining course of antibiotics and was told by my GI Dr. to resume a normal diet but to up my fiber.  I still had pain in my lower left side so we did a colonoscopy.  Other than 1 inernal ehmorrhoid and 1 single diverticulum, it came back normal.  I still pain in the same area.  The GI Dr. said if I still ahve pain it is probably irritable bowel and that I need to increase my fiber, take a fiber supplement and maybe take meds to calm the spasms. Are there other causes for the colon to spasm?  And it really doesn't feel like a spasm or cramps.  It really feels like pain - like someone is poking at me.  I put a heating pad on last night and that seemed to help some.  I just want to find a cause and work to resolve it than just assume what it is.

I had two diverticulum rupture on me Aug 2004 and almost died.  Before that happened I had the same complaints you do and the docs told me the same thing they are telling you.  After many years of searching I think I may have found my problme with the stomach pain..something called Celiacs Disease or Glutten intollerance.

Celiacs disease is often misdiagnosed as IBS..anything with a "Syndrome" on the end of the name just means that docs really dont know what is going on.  Glutten is a protein that human bodies have difficulty digesting causing, gas, bloating, stomach pain, cramps, constipation and other problems.

Do a search on this and tell me what you think.  I have found that the foods we consume do cause most of our health issues.
