Potassium levels?

Potassium levels?

Has anyone here had any troubles with potassium levels being low?    My hopsital stay last week was saying that mine were low, and they put me on IV with potassium for 2 out of the 7 days that I was there?   Anyone else had this trouble?  and if so, what did they do, and what happened to you?

thanks,
Candy

Our potassium levels can drop due to using diuretics, medications containing a diuretic like blood pressure medication, or most commonly....dehydration.  When our electrolytes drop we can become very weak, nauseous, dizzy, and even pass out.  To keep this from happening always make sure you stay well hydrated especially when exercising.  The best hydrator is water, but to replenish our electrolytes drink Gatorade, orange juice and eat bananas.  If you are ever vomiting with diarrhea you can become dehydrated very quickly as well.  With dehydration our BP drops very low when we stand causing the dizziness, and fainting.  A banana a day is sufficient for maintaining your potassium level. Take care.
