Prevacid alergic(allergic) reaction?Aciphex?

by samp, Oct 15, 2003 12:00AM
I've had an allergic reaction to Prevacid. My doctor wants me to try Aciphex, but it seems to be very similar in formulation. The Aciphex site says not to take it if you've had an allergic reaction to another PPI. I'm very reluctant to try this, and I've also had adverse reactions to Pepcid and Tagamet. Any suggestions? I'm not sure I want to try the Aciphex and risk another allergic reaction.

Aciphex and prevacid are in the same class of medications - the proton pump inhibitors.  If you had an allergic reaction to prevacid, it is possible that aciphex may give the same reaction.

However, this depends on what park of the prevacid you were allergic to.  There are some small differences between the formulation, so there is a chance that what you were allergic to in the prevacid may not be present in the aciphex.

To be on the safe side, you may want to discuss this allergy with your personal physician before trying the aciphex.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
