If you can't seem to tamp down the reflux, then your doc will probably recommend surgery, but that procedure has some rather uncomfortable side-effect so you should acquaint yourself with what it entails in advance. If the surgery is successful (some do need to continue to take medication), it should slow or stop the progression. And keep in mind that the progression is considered to be slow.
Wine and alcohol are not considered GERD-friendly. You may want to check out a representative example of a GERD diet at www.gicare.com.
