Prilosec (Omeprazol)

Prilosec (Omeprazol)

Good Morning - For only the 2nd time I have experienced gastro problems, being a gnawing/hungry feeling in my stomach.  When that happened I was prescribed Prilosec 14 day treatment and it worked splendidly.  A few years later I have the same symptoms and picked up Prilosec again. It worked great the first day, and promptly forgot to take it the next, and after the 2nd hiccup, I now have been taking it for 4 days straight.

The gnawing feeling is back, and sometimes it is a worse burning.  My question is whether I have burned out the ability for this medicine to work because of my hiccups.  I will continue the treatment for a full 14 days, but I wanted to get some feedback on whether a person builds up a tolerance to Omeprazol in this way.

Thank you!

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  I'm not sure if you can build up a tolerance or not but there are many people out there that take Prilosec for years and it continues to work for them.  If this persists I don't think that it would be the Prilosec tolerance but that something else is going on in your GI system.  I would recommend seeing a GI doctor if it continues.
