Good Morning - For only the 2nd time I have experienced gastro problems, being a gnawing/hungry feeling in my stomach. When that happened I was prescribed Prilosec 14 day treatment and it worked splendidly. A few years later I have the same symptoms and picked up Prilosec again. It worked great the first day, and promptly forgot to take it the next, and after the 2nd hiccup
The gnawing feeling is back, and sometimes it is a worse burning. My question is whether I have burned out the ability for this medicine to work because of my hiccups
. I will continue the treatment for a full 14 days, but I wanted to get some feedback on whether a person builds up a tolerance to Omeprazol in this way.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I'm not sure if you can build up a tolerance or not but there are many people out there that take Prilosec for years and it continues to work for them. If this persists I don't think that it would be the Prilosec tolerance but that something else is going on in your GI system. I would recommend seeing a GI doctor if it continues.
