Prilosec for non-heartburn

by Beth__0__0, Sep 20, 1998 12:00AM

  My allergist prescribed Prilosec for
my food allergies (gas, bloating, cramping,
pain, and diarria, but no heartburn or such).
I've been taking it for a week and a half and
  it is helping.
I noticed that most of the people using this
forum take Prilosec for heartburn type of
  problems.
Since stomach acid is causing my digestive problems,
then why do my symptoms differ (no heartburn)?
  Thanks,
  Beth

Dear Beth,
Prilosec inhibits acid secretion.  Its use is limited to acid-related conditions such as esophageal reflux, ulcer disease.  Some people with reflux can have atypical symptoms but I can not think of other ereasons why Prilosec should help you.
