Prilosec

I have been having some GI issues for almost 2 months now and was first diagnosed with Gastritis. For the Gastritis I was given 15 days worth of Prilosec. While on the Prilosec (and before) I had diarrhea and loose stools every day. Being as I was having that before, I never attributed it to the Prilosec but now I'm questioning whether or not the Prilosec contributed to the loose bowel movements as I am now back on Prilosec and am having loose stools once again.

For the past 3 weeks, without Prilosec, I've had normal stools and since yesterday (the first day back on it) I've had loose stools again. Has anyone ever had this side effect while on Prilosec?

There are a lot of side-effects when PPIs are taken. Constipation and diarrhea can be two of them.

Thanks for your reply. I had read that diarrhea was a side effect but wasn't sure if my loose stools were from the Prilosec or another bout of whatever it is that I have.

Guess it's time to do the fecal test...

I too am unable to get Nexium through my insurance any more. Still trying to find something that will work as well---any help?
