Problems after gallbladder removal

by k_rush18, Jul 05, 2009 10:57PM
I had my gall bladder removed in September of 2008.  It was full of gall stones and the last attack was when a stone was stuck in my bile duct.  I was in the hospital for 6 nights as my liver and pancreas were both infected and the surgeon wanted to get rid of the infection before he performed the surgery.

Anyway, at first I felt fine....I recovered normally and didn't really have any problems but a couple months later...the problems started.  I constantly have a pain on my right side right under my rib cage.......some times it's sharp and other times it is just an annoying ache that doesn't go away.  I feel pain in my back also and sometimes the middle of my chest.  It seems to feel worse when I eat something fatty. I also have acid reflux so I was wondering if maybe that has anything to do with it?  I don't have health insurance and cannot really afford to go to a doctor right now.

Is this normal after having your gallbladder removed?  If so, is there something I can take or do to relieve some of these symptoms?

Hi!

I cannot say how happy I am that I had mine removed!!!  It was better than lying on the bathroom floor for months on end in pain.  I don't regret it for one bit!  I feel blessed.

However since I have had mine removed on march 31st...everything has been fine.  I am so much healthier...but there are times I have felt those pains on my right side. I didn't waste anytime....I went back to my gastro and we talked about it.  After checking me out everything is fine.  So I followed his instructions on once again changing my diet!  I followed my low fat diet for a while and then started eating normally.  That is when I noticed I had those aching feelings..not in my back only on my right side.

So long story short....when I eat healthy and low fat I feel awesome...but whenever I eat something that has a higher content of fat I feel those pains. It helps to keep a journal.  That was my problem...but I would go to the doctor and talk to him/her about it.  This is not something to mess around with. Your liver is doing all the work your gallbladder use to do!

let us know how you are doing.

THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE! : )
