After a week of that vaginalAnterior vaginal wall repair Causes of vaginal itching Culture - endocervix Hydrocele Hysterectomy Transvaginal ultrasound Vaginal bleeding between periods Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy Vaginal bleeding in pregnancy Vaginal cysts Vaginal discharge feeling, achiness in the inner thighs, sciatic type pain on left, I went to the ER. They gave me antibiotics for a suspect vaginal infection. The antibiotics gave me bad diarrhea and more pain. Followed up with my gyno who said I did not have infection or prolapses and to stop the antibiotics.
Pain/pressure continued and I had another vaginal exam and ultrasound to rule out ovarian cysts or other problems. After a month I was referred to a GI doc who said I had a fissure. It healed after 6 weeks of Cardizem gel and sitz baths. But pressure/all above symptoms still bad. I had a CT scan-normal findings.
I then had a colonoscopy and told I had ulcerative proctitis and given 5-ASA Canasa suppositories for two weeks now.
All my sympotms are exactly the same since day 1 (9 weeks after hysterectomy) and for 3 months since.
I never had ANY of these symptoms before in my life and now I have been diagnosed with an incurable condition that I cannot manage. It cannot be a coincidence that I developed ulcerative proctitis after surgery, I was told it was hereditary/stress/unknown cause. (No relatives admit having it). The GI dr. said it was very mild and very hard to detect,,,,but I am not convinced it is 'ulcerative'. I NEVER had BM problems or blood in stool.
I feel the 'inflammation' in the rectal perineum area. But my symptoms and timing are not a textbook case.
I am suspecting something is anatomically bothering my rectum and this caused a chain reaction of symptoms. Perhaps scar tissue tethering my vaginal cuff to rectum? Overtight stitches at the cuff/uterosacral ligaments? These were suggested over the phone by a friend of mine who is a doctor.
Should I see a colorectal or urogyno dr. or both for another opinion? Would I need a laparoscopy to determine other causes?
Thanks for your help.
For those who have chronic rectal pain/issues, you do undertand what I'm going through!
Ulcerative colitis is a disease which can go with ulcers or not. One possible complication of ulcerative colitis could be recto-vaginal FISTULA - a connection between rectum and vagina (or tissues around vagina). This would explain air in the labia.
Proctologist - I'd say. Sigmoidoscopy will probably be needed again.
Laparoscopy would be neded, if nothing special would be find within the rectum, so if adhesions or endometriosis would be suspected.
