Proctitis/anal fissure/sore from colonoscopy????

I posted a question a few weeks back and never rec'd. any replies...now I have a few more things to add. So, I had a colonoscopy.  Everything looked fine.  In the days leading up to it I had no itching/pain in the rectum.  On this past Sat. things started up again. This week has been miserable.  I feel like I have a rash up through the crack of my bottom and so I went to my gyn. today to get checked out and she said I have a sore in the rectum which may have been caused by the colonoscopy.  She thinks it may be draining some, causing a yeast infection which is why I'm itching so horribly.  Questions are this:  1) is this common to have happen -- will it clear up on its own? (the sore)...2) could I have ulcerative proctitis or would it have been seen during the colonoscopy?

Please, if anyone can help me or give me some guidance, I would appreciate it.  She gave me a tablet of Diflucan for the itching which she can visibly see a red margin, but she said if the sore inside doesn't get better, to follow up with the GI.
Thanks.

It's very uncommon for something like this to happen after a colonoscopy. I'd suggest you follow-up with the GI person sooner rather than later. You want to make sure whatever is going on is identified. If something wasn't seen during the colonoscopy, make sure the doc knows about it now. GI problems can be tricky in some stages. Symptoms can show up and disappear for years before a true diagnosis can be made. Call the GI doc and get that sore looked at.

Do you have any off the cuff diagnosis?

My daughter had some similar problems..mucus and blood, etc.  We used a Proctologist since his speciality is rectal, while the gastroenterologist's speciality is colon and stomach.  He knew immediately how to treat the problem which he called proctitis.  Good luck and feel better soon.
