Propulsid link to depression, anxiety, and/or inability to concentrate?

by Jo-Elen, Jan 29, 1999 12:00AM

I would like to hear from anyone who is taking propulsid, or who has knowledge of it's possible side effects.  I have 2 children who have taken it for 5 years, and have both been diagnosed with anxiety/depression type disorders, though none exists in other members of the family.  These are usually hereditary disorders, and I am wondering if the propulsid that they are taking has anything to do with this, or if they are depressed because they feel bad all the time due to their chronic reflux.  Jo Ellen
Dear JoEllen,
The Physician's Desk reference lists the following adverse neuropsychiatric reactions to Propulsid: headaches, insomnia, anxiety and nervousness. Psychiatric events such as confusion, depression, suicide attempt and hallucinations have also been reported. The best way to tell if the Propulsid is playing a role in the symptoms you describe, is to discontinue the drug and see if your childrens' condition improves. I hope you find this information helpful.
