of the colon was performed. When a boy, I was a bit chubby, though not obese. I have always had a small amount of fat on my lower abdomen, but my belly never overhung my pubis. Since the repair through laproscopy of my torn sigmoid colon, my lower abdomen has overhung my pubis. The surgeon said the distension would "go down",. but it has not. I do not understand what he did in the resection
of my colon that would cause the disfigurement of a "pot belly". I do not wish to ask the surgeon again, because I do not feel he was honest with me when he told me the distension would "go down: There is a four inch scar under the overhang, where he entered my abdomen to make the repair. There is also a small entry in my umbilicus another four inches to the left and slightly below the umbilicus.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! I think your surgeon was probably honest when he said that he thought it would "go down" however, you are probably the rare expection where this is not true. I can think of a couple possibilities for why this happened. First, is that through the surgery you lost some muscle in your abdomen which has caused your abdomen to hang more. You could fix this by doing exercises to work on your ab muscles. The other possibility is that something was sewn up right in surgery, and you may want to talk to your surgeon again about this. You could also seek a second opinion from another surgeon. Another possibility is that this is a consequence of the surgery and if it bothers you enough you could seek a referral with a plastic surgeon.
