Putrid Smells

Putrid Smells

Hi

Just like flatguy27 I too, suffer exactly from the same symptoms. I have prolonged excessive flatulence associated with putrid smells, bloated stomach, fermentation-like feelings inside my stomach, constipation, and a consistent dull pain on the lower right side of my abdomen.  This has been going on now for the past 12 years.
I am 39, male, from Namibia (southern Africa). I release gas all the time, I really don't smell it myself but I swear everyone around me hold their noses or just act “funny” when I’m around. So it is obvious to me that the gas I release smells. My colleagues discuss secretly that I am the reason for the sewage like smells and I understand their situation. I probably would have re-acted the same!

It frustrates me so much that no doctor could really diagnose my symptoms correctly. They only say IBS. IBS could be cause by a thousand different illnesses as far as I’m concerned! As a child I had a severe parasite infection (intestinal worms) and bleeding through my nose. I’m and emotional wreck and at times think of quitting my job and even contemplated suicide on a number of occasions because of this problem

My symptoms are not any different from flatguy27.

I release more gas when I’m seated.
I release sewage-like foul smelling gas whether I eat or starve.
I’m always bloated and constipated
I’m also having a mild pain on the lower right side of my abdomen

Tests done over the past years include;
Countless blood tests  -five on average in a year
Ultra sound scans (twice) -of liver, kidneys, gallbladder and appendicitis
Colonoscopy
Endoscopy
Barium enema
Hydro therapy -cleansing of the colon
I went to a Homeopath doctor, a Dermatologist, ear and nose specialist, and my general GP’s.
The GP’s play it down to IBS (all three or four of them)

Blood tests were all negative except for a recent test for H-pylori (in 2010) that came back positive for which I received an intensive five day bacterial treatment. I went through the same process in 2002 and thought I was healed!

The ultra scans and x rays were all negative

Colonoscopy results: a benign polyp that was removed in 2000.

Endoscopy and barium enema were all negative

The hydro therapist said I had Candida (fungus infection) in the upper part of my large intestines and put me on a diet which was hard to follow but I did nevertheless.

The homeopath told me I suffer from a parasite infection in my blood and gave me medicine but I couldn’t go back as the medicine was expensive and my medical aid did not cover it. (Not that I could see any changes while on the medication)

Social Life
I do not have a social life any more because of this. I totally avoid crowded places, like restaurants, church etc and only go when it is absolutely a necessity. I even avoid my friends as I feel bad embarrassing myself and them in public.

Having been through all the above tests, stress and depression through the years, I still have not found any solutions although I have been on a pre and probiotic supplement for as long as I can remember. (Actually since 2002!)

I m posting this in the hope that I’ll find advise and probably a lasting solution from people who went through the same medical situation.

Thank you very much in advance.
