Question about stomach surgery - Please Help

If someone could please help me with this question I would greatly appreciate it. My mothers just had a stomach operation to reverse a gastroplasty she had done 25 years ago. They put in a drainage tube that will have to stay in for about 3 weeks. Food has been coming out the drain tube and also blood. Is this normal after a surgery? They didnt really tell her what to expect out of the tube for the next 3 weeks. Can someone please help...I am very worried.
