Question about what to eat

What foods should be eaten during an episode of cronic constipation when paitent feels bad because of it. My husband takes polyeth glycol 3350 NF powder 527GM, presclribed by his doctor every day and for some reason these reoccuring episodes happen. He has had all the test and there are no obstructions. He is 79 years old and is a very active man. Can he double up on the dosage also.
