Relapses of C Diff most likely comes from reinfection. Sometimes the bacteria can "hide" deep within the diverticula, where it may not be exposed to adequate levels of antibiotics.
There can be several treatment options. One would be to try oral
vancomycinVancomycin
Vancomycin hydrochloride. "Pulsing" antibiotics in stronger doses can also be tried. Other options would be to try binding resins, such as
cholestyramineCholestyramine
Cholestyramine light
Cholestyramine light packets
Cholestyramine packets in conjunction with the antibiotics. Another option would be the concurrent use of probiotics.
