Dear Clint:
Thank you for your question regarding umbilicalUmbilical cord care in newborns Umbilical hernia Umbilical hernia repair Umbilical hernia repair - series drainage. As pointed out by both Laura and Trisha localized infections can be a source of umblilical drainage (yeast being the most common). I would also alert you to the possibility of an umbilical sinus or fistula. I would have a physician carefully examine the area - preferably when drainage is noted. Sincerely, FWR
